The Water Resources Division collects, manages and provides surface water and groundwater resources information for the Northern Territory. To provide this information, a network of surface water, rainfall and groundwater sites (Pluviometer sites - rainfall; River gauging stations - river stage, rainfall, temperature and evaporation; Tidal gauging stations - tide stage; Flow sites - river stage; Water quality sites - water quality and Groundwater sites - bores and wells) are operated. The information collected is stored, managed and disseminated to the public using the Hydstra database. HYDSTRA database also provides a basis for data analysis, modelling and flow predictions. Hydstra/WQ is a system for managing and analysing discrete water quality data generated when water samples are sent to a laboratory for the analysis of various chemical, physical and biological properties. Time-series data is a sampling of a continuously changing parameter such as water level, air temperature or flow where the data is measured at sufficiently frequent intervals to ensure that the sampling accurately represents the continuous variable. Typically environmental data is sampled at intervals ranging from a few minutes to hourly or even daily. The data may be also be sampled at irregular intervals to better define sharply changing events. Examples of time-series data include: River levels, and the flow data derived from them, Rainfall, Temperature, Wind speed and direction, Electrical conductivity in streams. Hydstra/GW is a system for managing bore-related data. Hydstra/GW is part of the Hydstra suite of software systems for managing hydrological data. A site reference table contains attributes describing the location of the bore. A number of additional files contain data describing other attributes of a bore. These tables have been placed in the Boremaster, Lithology, Artesian and Hydrographic table groups. The Boremaster group further describes the bore and details any aquifer, aquifer pump test, casing, screen, gravel and bore pump test data. The Lithology group details the driller's, stratigraphic and geologist's log data. The Artesian group contains flow and pressure measurements while the Hydrographic group contains hydrographic and R.L. measurements.
