NT Fire History

The aim of this dataset is to produce a spatial product with fire extents compared against available remote sensing data. Since the 2000's data has been sourced from NAFI and NTFES fire management systems and validated to produce a fire history dataset. The NT Fire History dataset is published publicly and complies with the AFAC Fire History Guideline Fire history data dictionary attached as a resource.

Data is sourced from the mapping of wildfires and fire mitigation by the Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services and the use of Charles Darwin University - Northern Australia and Rangelands Fire Information (CDU NAFI). Property and infrastructure assets may be covered by a burnt area which does not indicate that the asset including homes was burnt by fire. The burnt areas are indicative of a burnt area and the resolution of the data may vary between 10m to 275m. Assets that are well defended may still show covered by a burnt area.

This data is also available on the Geoscience Australia Digital Atlas: https://digital.atlas.gov.au/datasets/digital%20atlas:%20historical-bushfire-boundaries-3/about.

This dataset covers the date range from approximately 01 January 2025 until approximately 01 August 2025.
