Groundwater overlaying the Beetaloo Sub-Basin

This dataset provides information on the key limestone aquifers and aquifer types overlaying the Beetaloo Sub-Basin. The elevation of the base of the Mesozoic Carpentaria Basin (the top of the key aquifers), the elevation of the base of the Cambrian sedimentary basins (the Daly, Wiso and Georgina basins) and the elevation base of the middle Velkerri Formation (the most prospective unit for shale gas) were captured in this mapping exercise. The Cambrian sediments and volcanics overlaying the Beetaloo Sub-Basin occur to interpreted depths varying from 61 metres to 686 metres. The interpreted base of the Velkerri Formation within the Beetaloo Sub-Basin varies from 394 metres to 3637 metres below ground level.
