This spatial dataset, KPLAIN_25, describes the Keep Plains area in the western part of the Northern Territory immediately adjacent to the Western Australia border. The surveyed area of 253km2 is located approximately 350km south west of the Katherine township over the Spirit Hills Pastoral lease; and 50km north east of the Kununurra township. The original land unit mapping survey undertaken in 1971 covered both the Lower Weaber Plains in Western Australian and also the Keep Plains in the Northern Territory. The KPLAIN_25 spatial dataset covers the Northern Territory part of the survey. Approximately 300 soil-landscape and vegetation descriptions form the basis for describing the LAND UNITS at a survey scale of 1:25 000. The associated technical report also describes the potential for irrigation in the area. The line-work for this spatial dataset was re-digitised in November 2018 (see Lineage) and a new map product was created (see Supplementary Information).
